I am just getting through an incident with a pretty deceitful Messianic group. Years ago I knew Messianic believers that were straight. They believed in Jesus and they kept Jewish traditions, but they didn’t expect or encourage gentiles to follow. I started reading articles at certain Messianic website. Ultimately, I find out that the rabbi isn’t even Jewish and in his class he systematically takes the New Testament apart. He has an online degree. My sister belongs to a very similar group which is run by a gentile rabbi who has an online degree. She has become anti-Christian as a result, although they say they do not want to go into the law and are now doing something else? These guys are phony and can be very dangerous.

Fine article! I had a staff member that had to be dismissed two years ago because of this “other gospel.” He was teachging our youth that dietary laws and other specific Mosaic Laws were necessary for salvation. I fear it is a growing problem in Christianity.

Spot-on post! I was a member of a fairly large online mom’s group geared toward families with many children and ‘Gothardism’ was a staple there. For some, it DID lead into full-scale Judaizing, for the owner/moderator who progressed to the ‘keeping’ of Mosaic Covenant Law in particular and others who she allowed to post their Jesus + the Law equation.

Choosing to contend for the Gospel (gently but firmly, as I really love this group of women!) got me dismissed from the group. Judaizing is not as rare as you may think (or at the writing of your above post). More and more in the Body are being deceived that they will have special insights and blessings by ‘keeping’ Mosaic Covenant Law. The Gothard movement is a ‘gateway’ movement into full Judaizing. It’s just a hop, skip and jump from Gothardism to the ‘keeping’ of Mosaic Covenant Law.

Oh – and that part about core, secondary, and peripheral issues in the Body of Christ? Have heard that perspective before and think it’s a great way to describe how there can be differences in the Body of Christ while still maintaining unity. When peripheral or secondary issues are pushed into the circle of core issues, then dis-unity and dis-chord occurs.

Here’s a tribute to legalism: A new college student went to college. He became ‘prideful’ over his own academic ability. To not risk falling into more ‘sin’, he dropped out. A noble cause, right? Wrong! He is now homeless and without a job and without money. He thought he was becoming more clean for the Lord, but erroneously threw away his potential to have a stable life.–This is a sarcastic tribute to the ‘poor man’s gospel’ and legalism.

I find it interesting that you are concerned with Bill Gothard being a judaizer. As a former Baptist, I could take him or leave him, an really did not see this creeping in. I have come to know many Christian Identity people and have tried to steer them away from being judaized. But alas, they have a fixation on following the law of Moses. Now these people are hard core judaizers! And they also are into the sacred name movement, old earth creationism, localized flood of Noah, and other errors too numerous to mention. Keep up the good work!
